“Goveji kal” Cattle pond, Lokve

Description:
The village Lokve and its surroundings are situated in an entirely karstic region. Thus, there are neither water sources nor flowing waters at all. In the past, however, many standing waters or the so-called kal or lokev, which were formed due to the impervious clay soil, existed in this area and were used by the original inhabitants – the shepherds, to water their cattle. Only two of these kal still exist today. The so-called Goveji kal (Cattle pond), which is located in the northeastern part of the village, is one of them.
